Founded in August 2011, Foothills Community Workshop is a 501(c)3 hackerspace/makerspace in Granite falls, NC, USA.   Formerly located in the Old Shuford Mill (a former cotton mill), the FCW facility was destroyed by a fire in July of 2017. A new location was secured in November of 2017 and is being rebuilt.  FCW currently has over 11000 sq ft containing:
  • An electronics shop
  • A Ham Radio Station – K4FCW
  • A lounge
  • A kitchen
  • A technical library
  • A classroom
  • A CNC machine shop (under construction)
  • A CNC woodworking shop
  • A HO  model railroad (under construction)
  • A Science center (under construction)
  • A Vintage Computer museum
  • An Arts & Crafts shop (including Stagecraft, a model shop, and fabrication equipment.
FCW currently has around 30 members ranging in age from high school to nearly 80.  The backgrounds are an eclectic mix including former and current: teachers; programmers; engineers; technicians; furniture workers; truckers; musicians; business people and others.  The common desire is to learn from others, teach skills, and make projects. Regular meetings are Tuesdays at 7PM and Saturdays at 3PM.  Often, members arrive early and stay late.  Visitors are welcome anytime a member is at the site.
