FCW Membership Information

FCW has three Membership Classes.  To become a member of FCW fill out and submit the Membership Agreement and pay initial dues.

Standard Members

Standard Members of Foothills Community Workshop (FCW) receive:

  • A key so that they may access the space 24/7 (after a short probation period)
  • Use of all community tools and equipment (subject to training requirements).
  • Free access to all workshops and events (plus material costs).
  • When available, a designated area to store in-progress work (at the member’s own risk).
  • A voice and a vote in FCW.

The current dues for Standard Members is $35/month.

Family Members

If one member of a family is a Standard member, then additional family may join as Family Members.  The big advantage is that all family members may be at FCW without having to have a Standard Member present.  All family members of Foothills Community Workshop (FCW) receive:

  • Use of all community tools and equipment (subject to training
    requirements).
  • Free access to all workshops and events (plus material costs).
  • When available, a designated area to store in-progress work (at the member’s own risk).
  • Only one voice and one vote in FCW.

In addition to the required standard member,  dues for additional Family Members is $17.50 / month for each additional Family Member.

Associate Members

The Associate Membership is intended for students, supporters, and those who for some reason cannot afford standard membership. Associate members of FCW receive:

  • Access to the space when a standard or family member is present.
  • Use of all community tools and equipment (subject to training requirements).
  • Free access to all workshops and events (plus material costs).
  • When available, a designated area to store in-progress work (at the member’s own risk).
  • Associate members do not receive a voice or a vote.

The dues for Associate Members is $20 /month

Guests and Visitors

Guests and Visitors are welcome at FCW any time that a Standard or Family member is present.  Guests and visitors:

  • Pay no dues
  • May attend any class, event or workshop open to the public.
  • May attend non-board meetings as an observer.

Visitors may become Guests by filling out and signing a Guest Agreement.   Those signing the Guest Agreement  may use the machinery, under supervision.

  1. I am writing to see if it might be possible to get help and work on a project at FCW. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to start or even if the project might be feasible.

I would like to do a nice, large instructional knot board that outlines each step for tying 7 knots. I am a Boy Scout leader for Troop 254 in Lenoir and have taken on this project as part of my Woodbadge training.

For my current level of ability, without help, this project would be a piece of plywood, and then stapling the steps on with nylon cord. Our Troop’s previous knot board was similar to this — and now all the knots are long gone. I would love to have the opportunity in working on this project to learn about FCW, and woodworking in order to make something useful that will help Boy Scouts learn their knots for years to come.

    Can you help me, please?

    1. Come on down to any of the meetings on Saturdays at 3 or Tuesdays at 7. (Nov. 7 is “iffy” due to the Makerfaire). We have worked with scouts before and may have people who can help with your project.
